From time to time Finn likes to sit down with mom and dad and tell a story. We usually write it in a special little journal at bedtime, just like we did with his big brother when he was four. Finn tells us what to write and we write for him while he watches.....noticing that we start our letters at the top of the page on the left, noticing that when he finishes a thought we put a dot and that when we start a thought we use a capital letter. He can recognize some words and many letters.
He likes that he is in charge of the story and also that he is in charge of Mom and Dad and gets to tell us what is important or silly or special to him. The idea that a just-four-year-old should be keeping a journal is not so silly when you consider all that he learns. Thanks to our good friend Teacher Gloria for insisting not only that we help our children to learn and grow but also that we let them do it their way. And thanks to Finn for sharing his stories with us!
